What I was going to suggest was that we organise our first public meeting at the very start of week 16 (the week after next, so people have a week to think about it). We can publicise it by:
- having a web page about the first meeting that we can point people at: where/when, what the roles we're going to be voting in are, and a copy of the draft constitution.
- wall messages on UKCIRC. I'd suggest one as soon as we've booked the
- room (i.e. within the next couple of days), one in a week's time, and one on the day of the meeting. The message should emphasise that joining compsoc supports UKCIRC and gets you some extra cool stuff into the bargain -- and that we're looking for people to be on the committee/systems team.
- email to the people who've shown an interest (either by letting us
- know they're interested or by getting a compsoc1 account): one ASAP, one on the day before the meeting. Effectively the same content as the web page.
- a post to ukc.announce along the same lines.
- MOTD messages on compsoc1.
- organising a pub crawl, so we can get to know the members and find out what they're interested in.
- persuading DJB to let us advertise in one of his first-year lectures.
"POsters and leaflets - posters for notice boards in colleges, leaflets for computer rooms or just handing out on campus. It's a way to appeal to a new group of people. In doing so we should emphasise the extra space we can offer I think and try and make it clear that compsoc is for anyone with an interest in computers or is even just willing to pay for some more storage space on campus
I think if we do do leaflet/poster things we should keep it fairly simple - compsoc society general meeting, date, location, email for more details - plus what we can offer, of course :)" -- Lizzie
